Questions We Hear Often

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Thai inheritance law work for foreign nationals? +

Thailand's Civil and Commercial Code governs succession for assets situated in Thailand. Foreign nationals may hold assets here subject to specific restrictions, and the applicable rules for their estate can differ from those of Thai nationals. We walk through the relevant framework at the outset of each matter.

Do I need a Thai will if I already have one from my home country? +

A will drawn up abroad may be recognised in Thailand under certain conditions, but it can create practical difficulties at the time of probate. Having a separate Thai will for assets held here often simplifies matters considerably for the people you leave behind. We review existing documents and advise on what would be helpful.

How long does the probate process typically take in Thailand? +

Timelines vary depending on the complexity of the estate and whether all parties are in agreement. Straightforward matters can be resolved within a few months; more involved situations take longer. We set out a realistic picture early on so you know what to expect, and we keep you informed throughout.

What happens if family members disagree about the estate? +

Differing views within a family are not uncommon in inheritance matters. There are formal and informal routes available, and in many cases early, careful conversation can resolve issues before they reach a more formal stage. Our Full Estate Representation service is designed for these more complex situations.

Can I review a deceased relative's estate without being in Thailand? +

Initial conversations and document reviews can often be conducted remotely. Some steps will eventually require presence or authorised representation in Thailand. We discuss what is needed for your specific situation from the very first contact.

How are your fees structured? +

We offer defined service fees for our three areas of assistance, starting from ฿7,300 for a Will & Estate Review. For Full Estate Representation, terms are agreed openly before any work begins. There are no charges you have not agreed to in advance.
